Concrete and Cement Floor Materials

Concrete is created by combining stone particles with binding products. There are components such as aggregates, cement, water and additives in the concrete structure.

Concrete floors have proven durability. Concrete floors can be painted, thickened with chemicals, and coloring can be applied to the whole during the forming phase. These floors have the advantages of being durable, resistant to moisture, allergies and bacteria, and affordable prices. At the same time, they have negative aspects such as being hard and cold, needing a professional application, regularly cleaning and transmitting heat, cold and sound.

Terazzo (Bulk Mosaic) is a mortar produced by mixing various types of small stone pieces with cement and marble flour binders. The dimensions, colors of crushed stones and the binder used are decisive in the color of the surface. Terazzo (Cast Mosaic) is divided into tile and mosaic coating. Tile mosaics are materials in certain sizes produced by pouring into ready-made molds. Bulk mosaics are applied after determining the desired area and pouring into the mold in the drawn borders.

When Terazzo is combined with binders such as latex, polyester and epoxy, their upper surfaces become resistant to abrasion.16 Terrazzo can be applied in different shapes and sizes. Among the most used construction methods are sand-cushion, monolithic, rustic, and knitted mosaic (bonded).

Monolithic terrazzo is applied by pouring the mortar directly on the concrete floor. It is the most economical application form and it is an ideal application for places with large areas such as shopping malls and schools. Sand-cushion Terazzo, being the best in cement terrazzo techniques, is preferred for designing various patterns and for multiple colors. In addition, this system acts as a control against cracks that may occur during structural mobility. In Paledian (Palladiana), after the cut or broken marble slabs are laid in the desired pattern, the gaps between them are filled with smaller stone pieces and the bonding process is completed.
